Meet the Team: Georgia

Georgia is our most recently promoted Account Director

In order to run a successful global social media agency, you need a team of talented individuals constantly pulling together in the right direction to make things happen. We are proud of our team of strategists, creatives, influencers, community managers, and in-house marketers, and we’d like for you to get to know them a little bit more.

What is your role at OST?

I’m an Account Director at OST. I am very new to this position as I was previously a Senior Account Manager for 3 years. As an Account Director, my main job is to make sure we provide the best service to our clients, ensuring that we stay within budget and deliver to our project plans.

Could you talk us through a normal day for you?

Nothing with me is normal, but I can give it a go! A typical day consists of waking up early to snuggle with my puppy on the sofa while drinking my hot chocolate. (I have got a Hotel Chocolat Velvetiser… if you don’t have one and love hot chocolate, it’s a game-changer!) Once I’m finished with puppy responsibilities, I tend to start filtering through emails at about 8-8:30 am. My day then tends to be filled with meetings, project plans, presentations and more meetings. My evenings are now a little different since working from home. Before, my time to “unwind” was in the car, blasting out some musical theatre tunes… but now my downtime is cooking. It’s how I switch off from the day.

What’s your favourite social channel and why?

I think Sophie Waitt said this too… but it has to be TikTok. I could spend HOURS on TikTok. I think on average, Debs, our Lead Creative, and I send about 100 TikToks a week to each other. I love the creativity and the randomness of the content you are shown. I say randomness knowing full-well it’s based on the algorithm of what I’ve previously engaged with. Nonetheless, it’s genius… well, the creators are genius.

Do you have a favourite social media ads campaign?

Back last year, Samsung released the new Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ 5G. The team decided to ramp it up a notch and stand out. I’ll not often big up Samsung as I’m absolutely an Apple kind of girl; however, this was a standout campaign.

They set up multiple Instagram accounts and formatted Instagram stories to tell just that, a story where the user selected the ending. Starting with someone holding a suitcase…will I open it? Or leave it closed? And following the tags, you would take the next step of the journey.

Very clever and different to anything done before on IG stories.

Who influences you on social media and why?

Do I have to pick just one? It’s hard to identify one person/account because you can find inspiration and influence by everyone. Is that a cop-out? Yes.

If I need a laugh and a bit of light relief, workinsocialtheysaid on Instagram (recommended by Jasmine) is a brilliant meme account on IG. Doesn’t influence the content I produce, but it influences my mood!

What are your passions/hobbies/interests?

As I mentioned earlier, I love a good musical theatre sing-a-long in my car, which gives away my main passion/interest. I love musicals. I had SO many planned in 2020, which I wasn’t able to go to, for obvious reasons, and I cannot wait to get back in a theatre waiting for the safety curtain to come up. The next one planned is Blood Brothers; if you haven’t seen it before, book tickets! The last one I saw was in New York on Broadway, when I saw Book of Mormon for the 3rd time, and it did not disappoint. Glass of wine in hand, and having a good ol’ belly laugh, listening to some very talented people… What’s not to love?

What future social media and/or developments in marketing are you excited about?

I’m always interested to see what LinkedIn will do next, previously they’ve been a beat or two behind other platforms, but they’re stepping it up and doing new/different ideas to other platforms. We have seen LinkedIn become more and more prominent in strategic conversations. I cannot see the discussion shifting away from LinkedIn unless something bigger comes in.

Why did you choose a career in social media?

Well, I kind of fell into it. I originally started self-employed, producing short videos for SMEs and then got asked, “where else could I put this video?” … that’s when I saw the gap for a career I hadn’t even considered. And here I am, eight years later…

If you weren’t at OST, you would be…

One of P!nk’s backing singers. (Editor: Who Knew?!)

Tell us one random fact about yourself?

I had a saxophone when I was younger, which I’d occasionally make noise with. I can’t use the word “played” when I refer to this time in my life. It wasn’t meant to be!
